Slide Hello, thank you so much for your continued support during these challenging times. The online shop is currently open, but due to the global pandemic, orders may take longer than normal to reach you. It’s an ever evolving situation but rest assured we are following government guidelines and doing all we can to keep our customers safe. When at our studio John and I have no contact with others and all deliveries will be left outside to further minimise contact. We are assessing the situation constantly and will endeavor to update our customers if and when things change. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you again for your orders and support. John and Helen Shaw x

Brilliant Vintage School Desks

One of my goals in 2016 is to shout about and celebrate our goods more. Each month I have therefore set myself the challenge of highlighting what we call ‘hero’ products. It seemed fitting that my first ‘hero’ product  should be the vintage school desk! They are one of our best sellers and a huge hit with both parents and children alike. They never fail to evoke special childhood memories and can bring any room to life. I absolutely love sourcing them and selling them to our wonderful customers.

Over the last 18 months we have found so many different versions, all with different markings and characteristics. For me you can’t beat the classic single desk, particularly the Esavian school desk.

Not only do they look fab in any space, but they have the added bonus of providing very handy storage under the lift up lid. So many parents buy one and then come back for another because the other sibling quite fancies their own too!

I have spent many an hour washing these tables and laughing out loud at the various scribblings I have unearthed. It’s sometimes a shame to get rid of them but it’s not an easy task to sell them with naughty words and pictures! When the children have outgrown these desks they make wonderful bedside or side tables. A great piece of furniture which just keeps on giving and is never outgrown!

I couldn’t resist so had to add one to Miss Edith’s room. She insisted it was needed for all the ‘homework’ she was going to be doing! Both her and Miss Maggie love it and spend lots of time drawing and writing. I simply love watching them use and enjoy it.

We have also managed to find lots of double school desks which are ideal for siblings and playdates. Like the single desks they come in varying sizes and shapes to suit the different ages. Some have lift up lids and some have handy shelves underneath, some have wooden legs and some have metal. Depending on what you are after, there is something out there for every requirement and taste.

We generally don’t like to change the desks a great deal because we feel they are great just the way they are. However, to add a bit of Blue Ticking charm we sometimes add the odd chalkboard lid or line the base with fun paper.

We have also managed to source a number of exam desks. We love their shape and the fact they add a bit of industrial charm with their metal legs. For a more contemporary look and feel we spray the legs a bright colour which children seem to love. They tend to have a slightly bigger top than the traditional school desks and are a bit taller so work really well for older children who need to work on a laptop.

Whatever your requirements there will be a vintage desk out there for you and the discerning little person in your life and hopefully we will be the place to source it! After all, who doesn’t want a unique and characterful piece of furniture which is also fit for purpose and looks ruddy brilliant!

Any chance you could source one?
