Vintage kids school desks appear to be the number one must have Blue Ticking product at the moment. No sooner do the desks arrive at our barn than they are winging their way to a brilliant home and little person. Due to their popularity we at Blue Ticking HQ thought we would pick out some of our favourite designs and looks.
The classic school wooden desk
It seems you all share our love of the classic school desk and who can blame you! They bring back memories of school days gone by and many a wasted lesson spent reading all the messages, rude pics and declarations of love. I think people also rate them because they are solid, sturdy and a design classic. I know that the two single school desks we have in Miss E and Miss M’s rooms will last them a lifetime and even when they are too big to use as desks they will feature as a side or bedside table. You just can’t go wrong with them, they are the goods that just keep on giving!
These desks also generally have lift up lids which are great for hiding ‘stuff’ and generally making the area look a bit tidier! I daren’t look inside our two desks, but at least it’s not all on show!
We sometimes add a chalkboard lid to the inside and often line the bases with various fun papers. This doesn’t take away from their charm, but just adds to their brilliantness and makes them even more individual.

The French school desk
We LOVE a French school desk and can never resit them once spotted. They generally have colourful metal legs with a great patina. If the legs are plain, we often spray them a bright colour to add to their charm. The French desks are very popular and people seem to love their extra detail and the fact that they are often a bit different, whether it’s their colour or shape. If you are a fan of the tubular leg then the French desk is definitely one for you!
The Esavian school desk
This has got to be one of my favourite British designs. Esavian was the trading brand name for the Educational Supply Association Ltd, a leading supplier of school books, furniture and fixtures. The company had a really forward thinking approach to modern materials and this is really apparent with their school desks. Many of the desks have amazing compass style legs and whenever we get these in stock they fly out because people love the fact they are a bit different and totally original. Look out for the ESA stamp usually on one of the ends or the back.
The school exam desk
Can you remember sitting exams and using one of these desks to guide you through? I know I certainly can although they weren’t as colourful back then! To add another dimension we spray the legs various bright colours. They make wonderful laptop desks and are ideal for both kids and adults. We love their shape and plentiful top.
