Guest Blog by Ruth Foss-Smith – My Blue Ticking Goods

My husband says our home is slowly turning into a Blue Ticking showroom! I’m just happy to say I’ve finally found some beautiful children’s furniture after a long time looking and I love showing it off. We recently moved to a new house so at last the lovely goods I’ve purchased from Blue Ticking over the past year finally have a home and are being put to use. My first purchases were these two gorgeous wall cabinets. kids-vintage-cabinet-blue kids-vintage-cabinet-2 What caught my eye with both of them was actually their colour; secondary was what I’d use them for! The blue one is probably my favourite and is on the wall in my son’s bedroom. He’s got quite a small room so it’s the perfect storage solution for the little bits and pieces I don’t want on show or his little hands to grab. It’s also lined with very cute bicycle paper, so hopefully it’s something he’ll love as he grows up. The second cabinet I had to have, especially when I saw it had the original vintage lock and key. I was meant to be for my daughter’s room but since moving in have put it in the downstairs shower room. It holds all the medicines we want out of the children’s reach. Almost every guest comments on it as they visit the loo! When the striking green bedside cabinet became available I snapped it up immediately. It’s a unique piece of vintage furniture and it’s very useful in my son’s bedroom because it currently holds all the keepsakes and cards we received when he was born as well as his little shoes and some toys. I love how the strong colour contrasts with other bright colours in his room. kids-vintage-green-storage We gained a playroom when we moved house and despite it not exactly being for my use, it’s slowing becoming my favourite room as I get it decked out with suitable storage and decoration. I wanted a box where I could throw toys into at the end of the day but which also looked good and was useable for my daughter. The blue crate on wheels was the perfect solution. She can see into it and reach for her toys and I can move it around as needed. I love the red of the wheels against the blue wood. And finally, I’d been looking for a drawer unit everywhere as it was exactly what we needed to house all the pens, paper and ‘bits’ my daughter loves collecting! So the pièce de résistance of my Blue Ticking goodies has to be the beautiful handcrafted drawer unit we bought after we’d moved in. It really gives the playroom a touch of Blue Ticking magic. I adore the colours chosen for the drawer handles and how they contrast with the grey and the gorgeous solid oak top. In years to come when my children are grown up and arguing over who should have it, I shall claim it as my coffee table! kids-vtinage-storage-3
